January 8, 2014Very good bio about the history of a legendary sports figure. I am happy that I read it because I had never really known all that much about Lombardi. The fact that he came up through the ranks and earned his position coaching the Packers was interesting. This is the second bio I have read by Maraniss (the other being Roberto Clemente), and he excels at intertwining the sports life and the family life of his subject. After reading this I would think say that Lombardi epitomized the idea of eating, breathing and living football, and because of this his family surely paid a price, yet never really left his side.

January 12, 2014Of all the books on or about Lombardi, this is the best. It's the best written, most entertaining and in my opinion most important. This is a must read for Lombardi fans, Green Bay fans, NFL fans and anyone else who is interested in sports and the people who made it great.

January 2, 2013I don't know what took me so long to finish this book. The writing was excellent, the research thorough. I just couldn't get through it. Now that I have, I'm glad I did. Lombardi really was an amazing psychologist and leader.

January 4, 2012Same author wrote on Roberto Clemente, also a great read. His style flows easily, captures detail and puts the subject's life in perspective according to the social situation. That's what made Vince come to life for me.
